How to use the tool
To use this tool upload a recipe file for your Menu, created using the template below.

Once uploaded, select the correct file type (csv or excel), then continue to browse the tabs here. Using the different tabs you can investigate the carbon footprint of your menu and try out new recipes.

Use our Recipe Template to create your Menu and get started! Or if you're using Saffron file, make your way to the 'Convert Saffron Files' tab.

The prototype tool
This tool was developed in a partnership between the Consumer Data Research Centre (CDRC) and Leeds City Council with the aim of exploring the carbon footprint of meals offered across Leeds.

The dashboard is created using R Shiny and all estimates here are generated using open data (references available at request). Emissions generated for recipes are measured in kgCO2e.

To use your own carbon emission factors, use this template to specify your values for certain products (measured in kgCO2e) and upload the file in the second file upload box: Download Emission Factors Template

Welcome to the CDRC Menu Data Converter, a helper page to assist canteen staff in using the CDRC Carbon Footprint Calculator.
To calculate the carbon footprint of your menu and recipes, the Carbon Footprint Calculator requires a simple upload.
This tool is designed to help convert your recipes in a format compatible with the Carbon Footprint Calculator.
How do I use the tool?
1. Upload your file using the 'Upload Your Menu' panel on the left hand side of this page
2. Specify the columns below. Please enter the name of the excel column (e.g. A) in which the relevant information for your recipes can be found for each information category
Are you using Saffron?
If you are converting a menu exported from Saffron, the information can usually be found in the following columns:
Recipe Name - P ; Ingredients - E ; Amount - AG ; Portions - A
